The Artemis at Arlington Heights Receives MAA’s Small Community of the Year Award 

The Artemis at Arlington Heights, a 124-unit apartment community in Arlington, MA, has been named Small Community of the Year (Under 150 Units) at the Massachusetts Apartment Association (MAA) President’s & Achievement Awards – Communities of Excellence. The award highlights communities that stand out for their design, operations, and overall resident experience across the state. 

Owned by Mirak Properties and developed by Spaulding & Slye Investments (“SSI”), The Artemis at Arlington Heights was completed in 2024. The project was designed by the architectural firm of Bargman Hendrie and Archetype, Inc. and built by Aberthaw Construction Company, Inc. The Artemis reflects a long-standing commitment to high-quality housing and thoughtful investment by the Town of Arlington. The Mirak family had owned and preserved the site for over 50 years and strove to honor the history and integrity of the existing mill buildings. The property includes three residential buildings and a standalone amenity building, combining new construction with the adaptive reuse of historic mill structures. One of the residential buildings, formerly the Theodore Schwamb Co., has been fully restored and now features original brick, exposed wood beams, and other preserved details that honor the site’s history. 

Residents at The Artemis at Arlington Heights enjoy a full range of amenities, including a fitness center, clubroom, rooftop deck, two-level covered parking garage, conference room, and bike room. The Artemis is part of a larger renovated mill building site, also developed by the Mirak family, which includes a coworking space, Workbar, and The Arlington Brewing Company’s future home later this year. The community offers direct access to the Minuteman Commuter Bikeway—a 10-mile trail from Cambridge to Bedford—and a convenient location along Massachusetts Avenue with easy access to Cambridge, Boston, and multiple public transit options. Mill Brook runs directly through the property, adding a unique natural element to an otherwise urban setting.
